IEC 60811-506 Horizontal Cold Chamber up to -86 deg

Cold chambers often called cable cold test chamber or Environmental test chamber, is an integrated part of any test laboratory. Mainly cold elongation and cold bend tests are carried out in this chamber but also these chambers are useful for many other special tests. Our cold chambers are also utilized in very low temperature tests of arctic grade cables and compounds. Arctic grate cables are mainly in high demand in Northern parts of Russia, Iceland, Norway and Greenland where operating temperature of a circuit could go up to -70 Degree Celsius.
Cold impact and bending chamber or cable cold test chamber are developed with high grade coolants (CE approved) and made to fit in the cold impact and cold bending apparatus inside.
Construction: Inside and Outside Stainless Steel 304 Inner
Working Space: 24 X 16 X 18 Inches
Compressor System: We use Danfoss Dual Compressor System (Denmark) or Embraco (Slovakia)
Refrigerant Gases: We use R404A and SUVA95 for dual compressor and R404A for single compressor Condenser Unit with Corrugated tubes
Temperature Controller: PID Controller Make West Control Solutions UK 6100+
Temperature Measurement: The sensor is suitably placed inside the work space (clearly visible) to measure the work space temperature considering homogeneity Cascade Refrigerant System is followed for uniform temperature
All circuitry components and wiring used are reputed make Oil separator is used for safety purposes Refrigerant are topped after proper pressure balancing and vacuum.

Suitable for tests as per :

  • IEC-60811-506 – Cold impact test on cables

The sample is cooled in the cold test chamber or Environmental test chamber for specified time and whilst still in refrigerator, at the same temperature, struck with the hammer dropped from a height. The sample is then checked for any cracks or scales visible to the unaided eye.

  • IEC-60811-504- Cold bending test on cables

The Cold Bend Test is conducted according to IEC 60811-504 and is designed to assess the performance of electrical cables at low temperatures. The test must be carried out on samples of insulation and sheathing material no more than 16 hours after the extrusion or cross-linking process has been carried out.

The test methodology requires a low temperature chamber or cold test chamber or Environmental test chamber, capable of maintaining the specified test temperature and bending apparatus as described in IEC 60811-504. The sample should be of sufficient length to achieve the specified number of rotations around a mandrel that has a nominal diameter of between 4 and 5 times that of the test sample. As such, the cables themselves will generally have an external diameter of no more than 12.5mm.Cables with a larger diameter will be subject to a Cold Elongation Test as described in IEC 60811-505 instead.

  • IEC-60811-505 (Also look our Cold elongation test equipment)

Cold Elongation Testing is conducted to meet the requirements of BS EN 60811-505. It is performed on the insulation and sheathing Plastic materials of electrical cables and fiber optic cables with a diameter in excess of 12.5mm.

From the prepared sample of cable insulation (thickness between 0.6mm and 2mm) and which has been conditioned at ambient room temperature, 2 dumb-bell shaped test samples are punched vertically in the Plastic material.

These test samples are then placed in a pre-cooled cold test chamber or Environmental test chamber fixed to the tensile and elongation apparatus with pneumatic clamps at the top and bottom, leaving 30mm of sample between them. They are then left to condition for 2 hours. Once conditioned, the clamps then pull in opposite directions at required test speed, elongating the test samples until the point of break.
